The wine is not produced only in the wine cellar. Our vine growers take care of vineyards the whole year so they can get the best quality grapes during the harvest. That's why they are a key part of the story of top quality wines from our cellar. Branimir, the winemaker, took us between our hills and revealed some of our plans for this year.
Due to unsuitable weather conditions, which were also present in the spring days, this year we started with planting significantly later than last year. This year, we will re-plant 62,000 new vines in our vineyards.
After six long years, finally conditions were perfect for an ice harvest. The vineyard named Topol in Rinčetova graba was harvested on Sunday 8th January in the early morning. Chief oenologist Mitja Herga expects about 380 liters of exceptional Chardonnay ice wine.
This year we were again a proud partner of the project Lidl’s young winemaker (Lidlov mladi vinar), organized by the company Lidl Slovenia. Goal of the project is to encourage students of viticulture and winemaking, to acquire knowledge and experience in the production and promotion of wines. The title was won by the team “Kaplja do roba” from the Biotechnical Faculty Ljubljana.
The first Šipon harvest at the Malek vineyard cottage
There was a special wine harvest this year at our old Malek vineyard cottage in the Ljutomer-Ormož hills. In a combined effort with our friends, business partners and well-known Slovenes, we managed to replant and renovate the terraced vineyard with the sort Šipon (Furmint) in 2014. Last year, the vines were pruned, but this year they yielded for the first time.
The 42nd Slovenian wine judging contest Vino Slovenija was once again held in Gornja Radgona. Our brand was very successful and had the best results in its history, taking home 28 medals.
